Healthy Futures Pulaski County

$
The HFPC is a coalition of like-minded individuals that share the vision of making Pulaski County as healthy as it can be by working and serving alongside one another to achieve the goal.
Healthy Futures Pulaski County is an action-oriented community coalition that serves to encourage the residents of Pulaski County to invest in their health by adopting healthy lifestyles, thereby creating a healthier community.
Through programs such as our A.C.T.I.V.E. Kids (Adolescents Committed To Improvement Via Exercise), the HFPC hopes to teach elementary and middle school children the importance of adopting an exercise regimen at a young age. This program is not only designed to get kids up and moving but to adopt healthy eating and study habits as well. The goal of the HFPC through the A.C.T.I.V.E. Kids program is to promote all-around wellness to the student. Emphasizing how discipline on the racecourse can lead to discipline in the classroom, the program serves to motivate and encourage children to develop discipline by showing how crucial it is to their success both now and in the future.
The many other programs the Healthy Futures Pulaski County provide to the community as opportunities to engage in and promote physical activity are:
  • Couch to 5k eight-week training sessions
  • Free Monthly 5k (Donut Run sponsored by Walker Real Estate and the Frog Fitness Group - FFG)
  • HFPC Five Run 5k Race Series (Pulaski County Regional Fair 5k, Tri-County Fair 5k, Cow Days 5k, Railroad Days 5k, Frogfest 5k)
  • Free aquarunning classes May - August at the Crocker City Pool
  • Group training runs every Saturday morning at the Waynesville Park
  • Frog Hill Half Marathon/10k and the Leapfrog 5k froghillhalf.com
  • Frogtober Family Fitness Festival - October every year
  • Yoga - the first and third Saturday of the month
  • 15 to fit daily program and initiative to encourage people to complete 150 minutes of exercise each week (the CDC minimum for health) by breaking it down into easy 15-minute manageable segments.
  • Get up and get moving campaign

CASA of South Central Missouri

Court Appointed Special Advocates

CASA = Court Appointed Special Advocates

We are a national association in the United States that supports and promotes court-appointed advocates for abused or neglected children in order to provide children with a safe and healthy environment in permanent homes.

CASA and guardian ad litem (GAL) volunteers are appointed by judges to advocate for abused or neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many of the children we serve, their CASA/GAL volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.
